Allen, Leroy

Hide Profile

LeRoy Allen was born July 13, 1912, in McLeansboro, Ill. He spent a large portion of his life between 1931 and 1975, serving in the US Navy and in his words "Have sailed every ocean and been 'on liberty' in every continent". A self-proclaimed softshell Republican churchgoer, Allen wrote six compositions for publication between 1951 and 1977, donning three Freedoms Foundation Awards for the work of his essays. His belief was that even a minor talent should not be left unexpressed, including one for children's literature.
