Radioligist. John W. Cathcart was born in Cerro Gorde County Iowa, in 1877. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1903 and came to El Paso the same year. He was the first and only intern at the Hotel Dieu. From 1904 to 1942 he the Chief Radiologist there. He was an active member in the medical community and was a member of many associations including the Radiological Society of American and the Southwestern Medical Association. In 1919, he served as president of the El Paso Medical Society. Dr. Cathcart was married to Ethyle Hicks Cathcart. They were the parents of Florence Cathcart Melby. He died September 13, 1942.
