The Grand Forks Lioness Club, a community service and social organization, was formed on February 24, 1982, sponsored by the Grand Forks Lions Club. There were 36 founding members. Monthly luncheon meetings were held with a guest speaker, who spoke on interesting community or organizational topics. The Lioness Club served the community in several ways. It donated funds to the American Diabetes Association, the North Dakota Association for the Disabled, Clothe a Child, and to needy individuals in the community. Members also held food drives for the Food Cupboard, volunteered for Special Olympic events, donated blood, and judged at local Boy Scout Expos. The club disbanded in 1989 due to "inactive and declining membership."
