Demmon, E. L. (Elwood Leonard), 1892-1981
Variant namesElwood Leonard Demmon received A.B. and M.S. degrees in forestry from the University of Michigan in 1914 and 1916. He worked for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Sumatra, Dutch East Indies, until 1924. He assumed the position of associate silviculturist at the Southern Forest Experiment Station in New Orleans, La., in 1925, became acting director of the station in 1927, and was made director the following year. In 1944 Demmon became director of the Lake States Forest Experiment Station in St. Paul, Minn. After seven years there, he became director of the Southeastern Forest Experiment Station in Asheville, N.C. He retired from that position in 1956.
