Yasui Bros. Co. (Hood River, Or.)
The Yasui Brothers, part of the pioneer Japanese Yasui family, were among the earliest merchants in Hood River, Oregon. Masuo Yasui, Renichi Fujimoto (also known as Renichi Yasui), and Taiitsuro Yasui opened the Yasui Bros. variety store in Hood River, on July 8, 1908. The store was closed by the U.S. Treasury Department after Pearl Harbor in 1941. Masuo Yasui and at least one of his sons, Ray, were arrested and interned as dangerous aliens during World War II. Another of Masuo Yasui's sons, Minoru, fought in court against the WWII Japanese curfew and relocation policies, and won. Some of the organizations with which the Yasui Brothers were affiliated or had dealings are the Hood River Apple Growers Association; Japanese American Welfare Society; Japanese Farmers Association; Japanese Savings Association of Hood River; Japanese Society of Hood River, Pacific Trading Company; Mid-Columbia Vegetable Growers; Mosier Association; Oregon Orchards; Pine Grove Ranch; Dee Packing House; Willow Flat Ranch; and the Mosier Ranch.
