New York City photographer Jayne Mangino was born on April 16, 1950.

A resident of Long Island City, New York, Jayne Mangino was a passionate photographer, even while battling cancer over a twenty-three year period, until her death on March 20, 2009. Her life work was honored with a memorial exhibition on May 17, 2009, at Art-O-Mat Gallery, Long Island City, in New York.

American photographer George Papageorge was born on August 1, 1940, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

In 1979, Papageorge was named the Walker Evans Professor of Photography at the School of Art, Yale University, where he continues to teach. His most recent book, Core Curriculum: Writings on Photography, was published by Aperture in 2011. The chapter "Snapshoots" in this book is based on the typescript found in this collection.
