W. Stanford Reid was the first chair of the History Department at the University of Guelph beginning in 1965 to 1970. He oversaw the development of the department as well as the creation of its graduate programs. Reid founded the Scottish Studies program at the University and was instrumental in the acquisition of an extensive collection of related archival material.
