Variant namesFounded in 1977, the Appalachian Writers Workshop is Hindman's annual workshop which supports emerging regional writers. It offers a weeklong workshop with seminars and one-on-one conferences. Jack Higgs has written and edited a dozen books including God in the Stadium: Sports and Religion in America (a Pulitzer Prize nominee) and Appalachia Inside Out. He taught courses in Appalchian, Southern and American literature for 27 years.
