The Ogline sisters were born on their parents' farm in Lincoln Township, Somerset County, Pa. The two older sisters, Fern and Katharyn, attended Millersville State Normal School in the early 1920's, with Fern graduating in 1923 and Katharyn completing her program of study a year later. The younger sisters, Alice and Helen, attended Millersville State Teachers College full-time from 1933 to 1935, then part-time until each completed her degree. Alice graduated in 1941, Helen in 1942. After leaving Millersville, Fern Ogline worked as a teacher and as an insurance agent. She also served as secretary of the Central Pennsylvania Synod of the United Lutheran Church in America for ten years and was active in the Children of the Church organization. She published a book and numerous articles on religious education. Katharyn Ogline died of blood poisoning just months after completing her Millersville degree. Alice Ogline worked as a teacher and married Merle Fox, a minister. Helen married Norman K. Hoover.
