Shain, Charles E.
Variant namesEnglish professor and president of Connecticut College (1962-1974), retiring to Maine in 1976; with wife, Samuella Shain, freelance writer and photographer, completed and edited two anthologies: The Maine Reader (Houghton Mifflin) and Growing up in Maine (Down East Books), both published in 1991. Charles and Samuella Shain's combined backgrounds - Charles in American literature and Samuella in library science - enabled them to be the ideal editorial duo to compile these anthologies.
