James H. Heinze was secretary and general corporate counsel of the Wolverine Insurance Company and Riverside Insurance Company of America, subsidiaries of the Transamerica Insurance Group, where he was also assistant secretary and counsel. He was elected to the House in 1966 and has served continuously since 1972. He concentrated on public retirement plans in Michigan. He sponsored and was instrumental in the passage of a number of insurance regulatory laws. He is a member of the American Bar Assoc., the state bars of Mich., Ind. and West Virginia, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Battle Creek Lions Club and the Navy League of the United States. He graduated from West Virginia University with a B.A. (1936) and B.L. (1938). He served as a reservist in the Navy during World War II and retired as a Lt. Commander in 1963.
