Second child of James Guy Thomson and Emma Lucille Frances Thomson; grandson of John Septimus Roe, surveyor with Capt. Stirling founder of Western Australia. After his father's second marriage in 1878 went north. Returned to "Brookhampton" where he kept the accounts of the family business.
