Nazaret "Chic" Cherkezian joined the staff of National Educational Television (NET) in 1959 as director of public information. From 1963 to 1970, he served as executive producer for NET's News in Perspective, a co-production with The New York Times . In 1972, Cherkezian moved to Washington, DC to be director of programming for the National Public Affairs Center for Television . In this capacity, he helped broadcast the Watergate and Nixon impeachment hearings via public broadcasting. From 1974 to December 1986, Cherkezian directed the Smithsonian Institution's Office of Telecommunications before forming his own firm, Paragam Productions.
