The Alaska Statehood Committee was created in 1949 to assemble applicable material, make studies and provide recommendations for Alaska statehood. The governor nominated eleven members and the law provided for their election by the House and the Senate (Alaska). The committee's records were maintained by the secretary and reflect the activities of the committee members, hired consultants, the delegate to Congress and private associations involved in the statehood movement.
