Formed 1895 when U.S. Congress established the Gettysburg National Military Park; commission ran the park under the jurisdiction of the U.S. War Dept.; commission lasted until 1922 when last surviving commissioner died; park continued to be administered by the War Dept. until 1933 when control of the park was transferred to the National Park Service.
