Biography / Administrative History
California State University Monterey Bay was founded in 1994 on the site of the former Fort Ord, which served as a training facility for many thousands of U.S. soldiers during the 20th century. The Fort Ord Museum and Archive (FOMA) is a project organized by CSU Monterey Bay faculty with the intent to document, preserve, and educate others about the history of Fort Ord. David Anderson, author and military historian, and Steven Levinson, instructor of video and media production, have contributed personal collections to the archival project. Dennis Sun of the CSUMB Library staff, is a photographer who has captured images of the murals painted by soldiers on and inside Fort Ord buildings, many of which are no longer extant.
