The North Carolina State University Research and Professional Ethics Committee's objective is to help graduate students and faculty know and understand how to act with integrity, respect others, and how to facilitate professional and scientific responsibilities. The Research and Professional Committee researched, designed, and implemented Research Ethics courses and seminars for faculty and graduate students.

The North Carolina State University Research and Professional Ethics Committee provides ethics education for graduate students and faculty at North Carolina State University. The programs provide guidance on how to act with personal integrity, respecting others and pursuing research with social benefits. The program is intent on building ethical considerations into all the university programs by providing faculty and graduate students with knowledge and understanding of rights and professional and scientific responsibilities.

The historical foundations of the Research and Ethics Program began in 1988 when a university-wide symposium on ethics in the professions convened. From 1991 to 1995 a series of graduate-level seminars on research ethics was coordinated. In 1998 a plan was devised to integrate research ethics training throughout the Graduate School, with comprehensive seminars. Also, during this time, North Carolina State University hosted the Bioethics Institute for scientists. In 2001 a director was appointed of the North Carolina State research ethics initiative.
