John Cooper was born in Sydney in 1912, moved to Brisbane 1933. Founded Cellar Gallery 1935, organised first Sidney Nolan exhibition at a commercial gallery with the Fraser Island series at his second gallery, the Moreton Gallery 1948. Moved to Gold Coast and established Eight Bells Gallery where major artists exhibitions were held. Died 1987.
