Boston Society for the Moral and Religious Instruction for the Poor organized 1816, incorporated 1820; renamed Boston City Missionary Society in 1841 and City Missionary Society, Boston in 1861; concerned with the basic right of children to have an education and established many Sunday schools; also involved with home visitation by paid missionaries, tract distributors, and summer programs for youth; still exists.
