Chicago businessman who served with Ernest Hemingway in the American Red Cross Ambulance Service in Italy during World War I.
Spiegel, the son of Modie Joseph Spiegel, director of Spiegel, inc., shared a compartment with Hemingway on the voyage overseas and became a friend when they were both stationed at Schio. The men stayed in touch after the war.
