Upper French Broad Defense Association
Formed October 1970 with less than 100 members drawn largely from the Mills River and Little River communities of North Carolina and two years later there were more than 1200 members, all "interested in protecting our productive valleys from the massive impoundments proposed by the development program of the TVA."
