Charleston, South Carolina preservationist, educator, author, and U.S. Army officer. Col. Alston Deas spent nearly sixty years in military service. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Deas later taught there and at The Citadel (Military College of South Carolina). He was president of the Preservation Society of Charleston and chairman of the Charleston Zoning Commission.

Graduate of West Point (1918), served in the U.S. Army for nearly 60 years, obtained the rank of colonel, and taught at West Point and the Citadel. Alston Deas (1893-1985) was president of the Society for the Preservation of Old Dwellings and the author of several books and articles.
