Seth Coleman, Quaker Whaler; emigrated from Nantucket, MA, to Dartmouth, NS, as part of whaling industry; whaler and boat builder with specialization in whaleboats; married Deborah Swain in 1768, couple had 13 children; served as Dartmouth's pound keeper and clerk of Dartmouth's Quaker meeting; in 1801, sent by Lieutenant Governor Wentworth to investigage a shipwreck on Sable Island; had a concern for Black refugees who came to Nova Scotia during the War of 1812; returned to Nantucket in 1821; d. 1822-03-26 at age 77.
