Mary Underhill, 1765; family moved to Mamaroneck, 1776, and Mott made an elder of Mamaroneck Monthly Meeting; 1797, became president of Nine Partners Boarding School; d. 1823-05-09. Samuel Underhill of Queen's County, and soon thereafter moved to New York City and took up mercantile business; Moved to Mamoroneck in 1776 in response to wife's declining health and "the political difficulties of this country", where he lived the rest of his life; Mary died several months after the move, leaving him with five small children; supported education; opposed spirituous liquors and use of goods produced by enslaved people; appointed elder a few years after moving to Mamoroneck; d. in New York City, 9th of 5th month, 1823, in the 81st year of his age.
