<p>William J. Flynn, President 1971–1992, CEO 1972–1994, Chairman of the Board 1982–2005, and Chairman Emeritus 2005–2018. An innovative leader with boundless energy, Mr. Flynn transformed Mutual of America from a small retirement association to become one of the most highly rated and respected financial services companies in the nation. </p>

<p>Mutual of America maintains financial strength ratings during global financial crisis, as one of the few companies that did not invest in subprime mortgages. Company transforms U.S. sales team structure into four regions—Eastern, Southern, Midwest and Western—with each overseen by an Executive Field Vice President.</p>
<br>2015-2020</br>
<p>John R. Greed named President of Mutual of America in 2015, CEO in 2016 and Chairman of the Board in 2018. In 2019 Mutual of America establishes National Group Sales Vice President roles. Also in 2019, the company adds a new trade name (Mutual of America Financial Group) and logo. In 2020, the Community Partnership Award celebrates 25th year of recognizing work of nonprofits.

Mutual of America was originally founded as the National Health & Welfare Retirement Association, on October 1, 1945, by a group of business leaders who were dedicated to supporting the nonprofit sector and believed every worker deserves a more financially secure and dignified retirement. The Company provided nonprofits and their employees access to retirement plans. This was one of the earliest examples in U.S. history in which employees of health and welfare agencies were able to accumulate funds toward retirement through such plans. This tradition and commitment to helping individuals as they plan and save for retirement continues to guide us today and into the future.
