Harvard University. Department of Art, Film, and Visual Studies
The Faculty of Arts and Sciences established a Department of Architectural Sciences in 1938. In ca. 1954, the Faculty appointed a Standing Committee on Practice of the Visual Arts, and with the opening of the Carpenter Center in 1963 a Program of Visual Studies emerged under the aegis of the Committee. In 1968, the Department of Visual and Environmental Studies was formed through the union of the Department of Architectural Sciences and the Program in Visual Studies.
