vol 4, p. 483. John [Winslow], of Falmouth, Cumberland Co., blacksmith, son of Nathan, late of Falmouth, deceased, and Charity; and Lydia Hacker, daughter of Jeremia and Lydia, "his late wife deceased," were married at Salem, Mass., the 22nd of 6th month, 1780.

p. 189. The elder John Winslow and his wife were very active Quakers.... In addition to running the farm, [he] was a
“mechanic” who sometimes worked as a blacksmith and was
known for his taste for tinkering. Around 1814 John Winslow
advertised a factory for manufacturing cards — brush-like tools
for carding wool. Quite likely the enterprise was a response to
the shortages of the war years. The family network proved
useful in marketing, and the cards were first sold through the
store of John’s nephew, Joseph Pope. p. 198, the death of the older John in 1829 at age seventy-eight.
