Beatrix Potter was an author of children's books, illustrator, natural scientist and conservationist. She was born into a wealthy Manchester family of Rupert Potter and Helen Leech Potter, she had one brother Walter Bertram. Both of her parents were artistically talented and encouraged their children; her father was an amateur photographer. Beatrix Porter spent a lot of time in Scotland and, later in life she settled in the Lake district, where she passed away in 1943.
