Gottheimer, Josh, 1975-

<p>Joshua S. Gottheimer (/ˈɡɒthaɪmər/ GOT-hy-mər; born March 8, 1975) is an American attorney, writer, and public policy adviser who has served as the U.S. representative for New Jersey's 5th congressional district since 2017. The district includes a swath of suburban areas in Bergen and Passaic counties and rural territory in Sussex and Warren counties.</p>

<p>A member of the Democratic Party, Gottheimer was a speechwriter for Bill Clinton and served as an adviser to the presidential campaigns of Wesley Clark, John Kerry, and Hillary Clinton. He has also worked for Burson Cohn & Wolfe, the Federal Communications Commission, Ford Motor Company, and Microsoft.</p>

<p>Gottheimer was born in Livingston, New Jersey, on March 8, 1975.[1] At the age of 16, Gottheimer served as a U.S. Senate page for Frank Lautenberg, a senator from New Jersey. Through high school and college, Gottheimer held internships with C-SPAN, the U.S. Senate secretary, and Tom Foley, the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.</p>

GOTTHEIMER, Josh S., a Representative from New Jersey; born in North Caldwell, Essex County, N.J., March 8, 1975; graduated from West Essex Senior High School, North Caldwell, N.J., 1993; B.A., University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa., 1997; J.D., Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Mass., 2004; special assistant and speechwriter for President William J. Clinton, 1998-2001; staff, Wesley Clark presidential campaign, 2004; staff, John Kerry presidential campaign, 2004; business executive; senior counselor to the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, 2010-2012; elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Fifteenth and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2017-present).

<p>Josh Gottheimer represents New Jersey's Fifth Congressional District in the northernmost part of the state, which includes parts of Bergen, Passaic, Sussex, and Warren counties. He was first sworn in on January 3, 2017, and is now in his third term in office.</p>

<p>In Congress, Josh serves on two Committees, including the House Financial Services Committee, where he is a member of the National Security, International Development and Monetary Policy Subcommittee and the Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship, and Capital Markets Subcommittee. Josh also serves on the House Homeland Security Committee, where he is a member of the Intelligence and Counterterrorism Subcommittee and the Transportation and Maritime Security Subcommittee.</p>

<p>In January 2017, Josh was elected Co-Chair of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, where he works to bring the group of 29 Democrats and 29 Republicans together across party lines to find areas of agreement on key issues including lowering taxes, cutting health insurance premiums, and improving infrastructure to help the American people. He was re-elected Co-Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus in January 2021.</p>
