Green, Bertha Stull

The daughter of a judge, Green was raised in Nebraska and graduated in 1893 from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1899 Green received a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Nebraska and that same year became the 22nd woman to be admitted to the Nebraska bar. She married Leslie Brooks Green an attorney, in 1904 and the couple moved to Mountain Home, Idaho where she became the second woman to practice law in the state. Green authored the booklet "Laws of Idaho, Concerning Women and Children" which was handed out at women's clubs throughout Idaho. Green went on to serve as chairman of the Legislative Committee of the Idaho State Federation of Women's Clubs and lobbied on various bills including child labor laws. She worked with a number of Women's organizations and in 1923 was a delegate, as the Idaho State President of the Federation of Women's Clubs, to the National Federation of Women's Clubs conventions in California. The Green family moved to California in 1920 where she continued working in women's clubs. Green had three children, two moved to New York and a son Walter, who was killed in a 1926 automobile accident. Walter is interred next to her in crypt #166.
