William Murl McMurtry, 72, of Denton, died Saturday March 24, 2007 at Denton Good Samaritan Village.
Dr. McMurtry was born May 4, 1934 in Enid, Oklahoma to William Murl and Iris Gene (Larson) McMurtry. He served in the United States Army. He was married to Helen Louise Slovacek on March 2, 1963 in Denton. He received his Masters of Education from Oklahoma University; Bachelor of Arts from Oklahoma State University; his Ph.D. from the University of North Texas.
Dr. McMurtry taught at Cameron State College in Ft. Sill, OK; Wayne State College in Nebraska; Oklahoma State University.
Survivors include his wife, Helen McMurtry of Denton; son, David McMurtry of Allston, MA; brother, Jon R. McMurtry of Tampa, FL.
Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
