MOFFETT, Anthony John (Toby), Jr., a Representative from Connecticut; born in Holyoke, Hampden County, Mass., August 18, 1944; attended Suffield (Conn.) Elementary School; graduated, Suffield High School; A.B., Syracuse (N.Y.) University, 1966; studied in Florence, Italy, 1963-1964; M.A., Boston (Mass.) College, 1968; served as Director, Office of Students and Youth, Office of United States Commissioner of Education, United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, 1969-1970; staff assistant to United States Senator Walter F. Mondale, 1970-1971; director, Connecticut (Hartford) Citizen Action Group, 1971-1974; elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fourth and to the three succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1975-January 3, 1983); was not a candidate in 1982 for reelection to the United States House of Representatives but was an unsuccessful candidate for the United States Senate; television news anchorman in West Hartford, Conn., 1986-1989; unsuccessful candidate for election to the One Hundred Second Congress in 1990; is a resident of Stony Creek, Conn.

<p>Anthony John "Toby" Moffett, Jr. (born August 18, 1944) is a former American politician from the state of Connecticut. A Democrat, Moffett served in the United States House of Representatives as the member from Connecticut's 6th congressional district from 1975 to 1983. Moffett is currently Senior Advisor at Mayer Brown LLP.</p>

<p>Moffett was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the son of Lebanese immigrants. He attended Suffield Elementary School in Suffield, Connecticut and graduated from Suffield High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University in 1966 and studied in Florence, Italy from 1963 to 1964. He received his Master of Arts from Boston College in 1968.</p>

<p>An avid Democrat and leading voice on environmental issues, Moffett first appeared on the national scene in the 1970s as an environmental activist and coalition-builder in his home state of Connecticut.</p>
