Starrett, Agnes Lynch, 1899-1988

Agnes Lynch Starrett was an alumane of the Univeristy of Pittsburgh and a professor in the English Department until 1936 when Chancellor Bowman asked her to compile the history of the university for the 1937 sesquicentennial celebration. Titled Through One Hundred and Fifty Years, it was the first book published by the University of Pittsburgh Press. Bowman then asked her to edit Pitt Magazine. She was then named director of the Press in 1954 and remained so until her retirement in 1964. She was married to C.V. Starrett, Executive Director of the Buhl Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science, from 1940-1964. She died on November 17, 1988 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
