Steven Crisp of Colchester was a typical example of a middle class. He married his first wife, Dorothy, in 1648. His parents, his wife, and he joined the Friends at about the same time. His two children died of the plague, at Colchester. From 1663, Crisp paid numerous visits to Holland. In 1685, Crisp married Gertrude Dericks Nieson.
Crisp's numerous writings were collected and published by John Field in 1695, his Short History of a Long Travel from Babylon to Bethel, 1691.
