Betty B. Baehr, 77, a librarian at the University of Maryland's McKeldin Library for 37 years, died of kidney failure June 6 at Suburban Hospital. She lived in Chevy Chase.
Miss Baehr retired about eight years ago as an inter-library loan librarian. Earlier, she was a circulation manager.
She was born in Washington into an Army family and raised elsewhere in the continental United States, Hawaii and the Philippines.
Miss Baehr attended Oklahoma College for Women, now Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts, and Lake Forest College. She received a bachelor's degree from George Washington University, a library degree from the University of Kentucky and a master's degree in American studies from the University of Maryland.
During World War II, she was a secretary and office manager for the Buffalo Forge Co. in Washington.
Miss Baehr was national secretary of the Daughters of the U.S. Army and a member of its Virginia chapter. She was senior warden, usher and Altar Guild member at Christ Episcopal Church in Kensington and a life member of the American Library Association.
Survivors include a sister, Katherine E. St. John of Fort Belvoir.
