Lund Washington (1737-1796) was a distant cousin of George Washington. He was born at Chotank, Virginia (then Stafford County, now King George County), the son of Townshend and Elizabeth Lund Washington. During the years of the Revolution, Lund lived at and managed Mount Vernon. His letters to the General convey much information about the running of the estate during the war. He married Elizabeth Foote in 1779. After the war George Washington sold 360 acres of the western section of Mount Vernon, the Hayfield Farm, to Lund.
