Hutchinson, John, 1792-1865
Native of Tinmouth, Vermont; came to Hamburg, N.Y. with his family in 1810 .... Two recollections, entitled "An Indian Story" and "The History of a Tree". The first relates an encounter with two Indians as Hutchinson and his father chased their cow, after crossing Buffalo Creek in 1810; the other his sighting of a huge black walnut tree in Silver Creek, as he walked back to Hamburg from Cleveland, Ohio in 1822. He states that the tree was later taken by wagon to New York City, covered with a roof, and used as a grocery.
