Brown, Lisa, 1960-

<p> Lisa Brown (born March 6, 1960) served as the first White House Staff Secretary in the Obama White House, assuming that post on January 20, 2009. Earlier, during the 2008-2009 presidential transition, she served as Co-Chair of Agency Review. Prior to joining the Obama-Biden Transition Team, she served as Executive Director of the American Constitution Society, a progressive legal organization. </p>

<p> After President Obama's 2011 State of the Union Address, Brown joined the Office of Management and Budget to assist the ambitious effort to draft a government reorganization proposal. </p>

<p> Since March 2013, she has served as the chief legal counsel to Georgetown University as Vice President and General Counsel. </p>

Lisa Brown is Georgetown University's Vice President and General Counsel. Brown provides general legal counsel to the President, the University's governing boards, and its senior academic and administrative officers; advises on the legal implications of University policy and decision-making; and manages the team of lawyers and administrative professionals who serve in the Office of University Counsel.

Prior to joining Georgetown, Brown served in the Administration of President Obama, first as Assistant to the President and Staff Secretary in the White House, and then as Acting Chief Performance Officer at the Office of Management and Budget. She had previously served as Co-Director of Agency Review for the Obama-Biden Transition Project. Prior to joining the Transition, Brown served for six years as the Executive Director of the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy. During the Administration of President Clinton, Brown was Counsel to Vice President Gore and a member of the Executive Board of the President’s Committee for Employment of People with Disabilities. She also served as an Attorney Adviser in the Office of Legal Counsel at the Department of Justice.

Before entering the government, Brown was a partner at the Washington law firm of Shea & Gardner. She also clerked for the Honorable John C. Godbold on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Brown graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University with a degree in political economy, and earned her law degree from the University of Chicago Law School where she graduated with Honors and served as Editor-in-Chief of the University of Chicago Legal Forum.
