<p>Mr. Schultz of Virginia, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister Counselor, took the oath of office in October 2014 as the U.S. Ambassador to Zambia. Prior to this posting, he most recently served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine, from 2010 to 2013. From 2007 to 2009 he served in the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia as the Counselor for Economic Affairs. From 2004-2007, he was the Deputy Chief of Mission in the U.S. Embassy in Harare, Zimbabwe. From 2002-2004, he was Deputy Director in the State Department’s Office of European Security and Political Affairs, which is responsible for U.S. relations with NATO and the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Prior to that assignment, Mr. Schultz served in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from 2000-2002 as Deputy Chief of Mission and for six-months before and after 9/11 as Charge d'Affaires. Prior to Ashgabat, he served in the State Department as the Deputy Director for Ukrainian, Moldovan, and Belarusian Affairs from 1998 to 2000.</p>
<p>Mr. Schultz's other assignments include: Political Officer in Tbilisi, Georgia from 1996 to 1998; Human Rights Officer for the Former Soviet Union in the Department's Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Bureau from 1992 to 1994; Administrative Officer in Martinique, French West Indies from 1991 to 1992; Vice Consul and General Services Officer in Paris, France 1989-1991; and General Services Officer in Antananarivo, Madagascar from 1987-1989. Mr. Schultz also completed the Advanced Economics Course at the Foreign Service Institute in 1995.</p>
<p>Mr. Schultz has received numerous Department awards, including five individual Superior Honor Awards and three individual Meritorious Honor Awards.</p>
<p>Mr. Schultz graduated with honors from Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota in 1982. He completed an M.A. in International Studies at Denver University in 1987. He speaks French, Russian, and Ukrainian.</p>

<p>The Southern African nation of Zambia will soon have a new ambassador in the person of Eric T. Schultz, a longtime diplomat who most recently served as deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine, from 2010 to 2013. If confirmed by the Senate as expected, Schultz would succeed Mark C. Storella, who served in Lusaka starting in August 2010.</p>
<p>Born circa 1960, Schultz earned a B.A. at Macalester College in Minnesota in 1982, where he wrote a senior thesis entitled “Ethno-nationalism: Threat and Promise,” and an M.A. at the University of Denver.</p>
<p>A career member of the Senior Foreign Service since the mid-1980s, Schultz served as political officer at the embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 1996 to 1998, and as deputy director for Ukrainian, Moldovan, and Belarusian Affairs at the State Department in Washington from 1998 to 2000.</p>
<p>From 2000 to 2002, he served as deputy chief of mission at the embassy in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, returning to Washington to serve as deputy director in the Office of European Security Policy from 2002 to 2004.</p>
<p>From 2004 to 2007, Schultz was deputy chief of mission at the embassy in Harare, Zimbabwe, and served as minister counselor for Economic Affairs at the embassy in Moscow, Russia, from 2007 to 2009.</p>
<p>Eric Schultz is married to Klaudia Schultz, with whom he has two sons, Alek and Adam.</p>

<p>Ambassador Schultz is a former senior American diplomat with decades of experience in the CIS and southern Africa. He has worked extensively with Ukraine, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Georgia, and has experience in emerging markets around the world.</p>
<p>Ambassador Schultz served as U.S. Ambassador to Zambia (2014-2017); the Deputy U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine (2010-2013); the Minister-Counselor for Economic Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow (2007-2009); Deputy U.S. Ambassador to Zimbabwe (2004-2007).</p>
<p>Prior to these leadership assignments he also worked in Georgia, Martinique, France, and Madagascar as well as serving in a number of assignments in Washington, including Deputy Director of the NATO desk and Deputy Director of the Ukraine desk.</p>
<p>Acting as a senior policy advisor, he will provide government and public relations services to Asters and its clients, focusing especially on the U.S. Government.</p>
