<p>Anne Slaughter Andrew (born 1955) is an American environmental attorney and was the United States Ambassador to Costa Rica from 2009–2013 after being appointed by President Barack Obama.</p>

<p>Born in Evansville, Indiana, Andrew graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts. She received her Juris Doctor in 1983 from Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Indiana Law Review.</p>

<p>Andrew is married to former Chair of the Democratic National Committee Joe Andrew and they have two children.</p>

<p>Andrew served as Co-Chair of the Environment/Energy Team at the law firm of Baker & Daniels from 1986 to 2000, and later became a partner at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Patton Boggs, where she practiced from 2001–2003. In 2004, she co-founded a medical bio-tech consulting company, Anson Group LLC, of which she was a co-owner and Director from 2004–2007. In 2007, Andrew was a founder of New Energy Nexus, LLC a consulting firm advising companies and investors on strategies related to clean energy technology.</p>

<p>From 1997 to 1999, Andrew was Adjunct Professor of Law at Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis.</p>

<p>Andrew was actively engaged in conservation and environmental protection throughout her career working with organizations like The Clean Economy Network, the Sierra Club, and The Nature Conservancy.</p>

<p>Anne Slaughter Andrew has her husband, Joseph J. Andrew, in part, to thank for her nomination as the next U.S. ambassador to Costa Rica. While the environmental lawyer and lobbyist has made friends in the Democratic Party and contributed to campaigns, it was her husband’s endorsement of Barack Obama during last year’s Democratic primary in Indiana that left the president with a debt of thanks to repay to the Andrew family.</p>

<p>Before getting married, Anne Slaughter graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts. She attended law school at Indiana University-Indianapolis, where she served as editor-in-chief of the Indiana Law Review and earned her Juris Doctorate in 1983.</p>

<p>She fashioned a career as an environmental lawyer, working for the firms Bingham McHale, Baker & Daniels (where she co-chaired the environment/energy team) and Patton Boggs, where she served as a partner. She was a registered lobbyist with Baker & Daniels in 2000, representing Steel Dynamics Inc. In 2004, she co-founded a medical biotech consulting company, Anson Group, serving as a director until 2007, when she founded another company, New Energy Nexus, an energy consulting firm.</p>

<p>Andrew has been involved with environmental organizations, including the Sierra Club and the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation. Andrew has worked with the Nature Conservancy (TNC) since 1995, serving as an Indiana Trustee, and as a member of the TNC President’s National Advisory Council. Andrew also served as special counsel and director for TNC in Arlington, Virginia.</p>

Recent projects include co-founding TerViva, LLC, an agrotechnology company developing environmentally sustainable crops for food and fuel; launching the Climate Forum with the NewDEAL, a rising stars network of exceptional state and local elected officials; investing and advising LNG, LLC, a Central American venture to collect and recycle used lubricant oil; and co-founding EARTH University's global platform for Leadership and Sustainable Solutions Impact.</p>

<p>Ambassador Andrew serves on the Board of Directors of Ad Astra Rocket Company (Chair, Audit Committee) in Houston, Texas and as an advisor to a number of start-up clean energy businesses. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of Earth University and the NewDEAL (Chair, Governance, and Nominating), she also serves on the Board of the Natural Resources Defense Council (Chair, Governance and Nominating), and on the Telluride Foundation Executive Committee in Telluride, Colorado. Ambassador Andrew earned her B.A. from Georgetown University and her J.D. from Indiana University School of Law.</p>
