Andrew Newell Wyeth July 12, 1917, Chadds Ford, PA– January 16, 2009, Chadds Ford, PA; child of N.C. (Newell Convers) Wyeth and his wife, Carolyn Bockius Wyeth; homeschooled by father; Wyeth started drawing at a young age; In 1940, Wyeth married Betsy James, Their first child, Nicholas, was born in 1943, followed by James ("Jamie"); In 1937, at age twenty, Wyeth had his first one-man exhibition of watercolors at the Macbeth Gallery in New York City; visual artist, primarily a realist painter, working predominantly in a regionalist style. He was one of the best-known U.S. artists of the middle 20th century
