Amanda M. Way July 10, 1828, Randolph, IN – February 24, 1914, Whittier, CA; parents Hannah (Martin) and Matthew Way; schoolteacher by profession; after the death of her father in 1849, worked as a milliner (hatmaker) and seamstress to support her family; 1844, joined the Winchester Total Abstinence; 1854, led a group of Winchester women in what is known as the "whiskey riots" or the "Page Liquor Case"; served as vice-president of the first Indiana women's rIghts convention; served as nurse during Civil War; member of Indiana Woman's Suffrage Association;
