Henry Walters (September 26, 1848–November 30, 1931, New York City, NY); father, William Thompson Walters, (1820-1894) who founded Atlantic Coast Line Company; graduated from Georgetown University, 1869; moved to Wilmington, NC, 1889, to be general manager of Atlantic Coast Line Compnay, elected president of the Atlantic Coast Line Company, 1894 after, and transferred the line's headquarters to New York, took control of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, 1902; married Sarah Jones in 1922; art collector, father bequeathed his art collection to Henry; Henry bought the three houses adjoining the property owned by his father in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore, in order to house and display the full collection, 1900; opened to the public as the Walters Art Gallery, 1909; after death in 1931, Walters left building and collection to the city of Baltimore
