Harry Frank Guggenheim (b. August 23, 1890, West End, NJ–d. January 22, 1971, New York, NY); grandson of Meyer Guggenheim, mining magnate; son of Daniel Guggenheim, mining magnate and philanthropist; BA, MA (1913), Pembroke College at Cambridge University; member of US Navy Reserves, member of First Yale Unit in WWI; director of Daniel and Florence Guggenheim Foundation; provided funds for the establishment of Guggenheim School of Aeronautics at New York University in 1925; president of the Daniel Guggenheim Fund for the Promotion of Aeronautics; United States ambassador to Cuba, 1929-1933; President Hoover appointed Guggenheim to serve on the National Advisory Committee of Aeronautics, 1929-1938; as president of the Daniel and Florence Guggenheim Foundation, organized the Daniel and Florence Guggenheim Jet Propulsion Center at the California Institute of Technology and the Guggenheim Laboratories for Aerospace Propulsion Sciences at Princeton University, 1948; with his wife, Alicia Patterson, founded the newspaper Newsday in 1940; participant in the founding of the New York Racing Association
