Osborn Duke, Jr. was born Oct. 6, 1924, where his parents, Osborn L. and Bessie Breisford Duke, operated a barber and beauty shop on historic Camp Bowie Blvd.

He took up the trombone in high school and studied music at North Texas State University before joining the 622nd Army Air Force Band in 1943 ... After the war, he played locally with the Harvey Anderson Band. He toured with the Bobby Byrne orchestra, then entered Texas Christian University where he earned a degree in English in 1950.

He played with the Tex Beneke Band and sang and played with the Sammy Kaye orchestra, an other big bands, while earning a master's degree in English from Columbia University in 1952. ...

He taught English, rhetoric and creative writing at Columbia College in New York, and at Texas Christian University before joining the General Dynamics Corporation as a technical writer, editor and film producer. He continued to perform with local bands and played first trombone with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. He was a life member of local 72-147 American Federation of Musicians. ...
