Ernestine Louise Rose; January 13, 1810, Piotrków Trybunalski, Congress Poland – August 4, 1892, Brighton, England; born as Ernestine Louise Potowska; father was a wealthy rabbi; moved to Berlin at age of 17; relocated to England and met Robert Owen, a socialist, and the two were good friends; married William Ella Rose; emigrated to US in 1836 and settled in NYC; became speaker for abolition of slavery, religious tolerance, public education and equality for women; joined with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott, Paulina Kellogg Wright Davis and Sojourner Truth and fought for women's rights and abolition; elected president of the National Women's Rights Convention in October, 1854; staunch athiest
