Carlos Saavedra Lamas (b. November 1, 1878, Buenos Aires, Argentina–d. May 5, 1959, Buenos Aires, Argentina); academic, politician, first Latin American Nobel Peace Prize recipient; Attended Universty of Buenos Aires; taught law and history at University of La Plata; leading academic in field of labor legislation and international law; began in politics in 1906; elected to Paliament, 1908, forengin minister, 1932-1938; help with ending the Chaco War between Paraguy and Bolivia; elected president of the League of Nations, 1936;
