Judge, Hugh, approximately 1750-1834
pp. 1-2. b. ca. 1750 to Catholic Irish immigrants; mother named Margaret; only child besides an older brother who died at age 18; grew up in Philadelphia; joined Society of Friends as a young man.
p. 6. After end of his apprenticeship, moved to Springfield and learned milling trade from Samuel Levis for a year, then worked at a mill on the Wissahickon creek for a year.
pp. 7-8. First appeared in the ministry in 11mo 1772 at 2nd Street in Philadelphia, while he had the job at the Wissahickon mill.
pp. 10-11. 1773, moved to Pikeland, Chester Co., to work as a miller for William Lightfoot, brother[-in-law] of Susanna Lightfoot; same year, joined Uwchlan Monthly Meeting; 9mo 1776, m. Susanna Hatton, daughter of Susanna Lightfoot, and went to live and work on the farm of new wife's step-father, Thomas Lightfoot; farmed part of this land from 1778 to 1780; acknowledged as a minister by Uwchlan MM shortly after marriage.
p. 11. 1780-1783, rented a grist mill near Concord Monthly Meeting; made two religious visits to Virginia in company with Richard Ridgway and Joseph Townsend.
pp. 24-25. 1783-08-13, moved to Wilmington Monthly Meeting, having previously rented a mill on the Brandywine River; 1784, traveled to Nantucket for his health with Joseph Tatnall; stayed at the house of William Rotch on Nantucket.
p. 30. 1784, commenced a religious visit to the southern states in company with Isaac Jacobs.
p. 234. 11mo 1792, moved to New Rochelle, NY, and became a member of Mamaroneck Particular Meeting and Purchase Monthly Meeting.
p. 243. 5mo 1797, moved to New York City, where he witnessed several outbreaks of Yellow Fever.
p. 302. 1804-03-21, moved to Little Falls, Maryland, where he lived as a farmer; joined Gunpowder Monthly Meeting.
p. 319. 1815, moved to Barnesville, Ohio.
p. 349. 9mo 1827, death of his wife Susanna.
p. 368. 1834-12-21, d. while visiting Kennet Square, Pa.
