Elizabeth MacKintosh, 25 July 1896, Inverness, Scotland–d. 13 February 1952, London, England); Scottish author best known for her mystery novels; also wrote as Gordon Daviot; attended Inverness Royal Academy, Anstey Physical Training College; taught physical training; first published work was in The Westminster Gazette in 1925, under the name Gordon Daviot; MacKintosh's best-known books were written under the name of Josephine Tey, which was the name of her Suffolk great-great grandmother
