Issa, Darrell, 1953-
<p>Congressman Darrell Issa represents the people of California's 50th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives.</p>
<p>The 50th District encompasses the central and northeastern parts of San Diego County and a portion of Riverside County, including the communities of Fallbrook, San Marcos, Valley Center, Ramona, Escondido, Santee, Lakeside, El Cajon, Temecula, and the mountain and desert areas of the San Diego-Imperial County line.</p>
<p>Originally from Ohio, Issa enlisted in the U.S. Army when he was a senior in high school. Through his military service, he received an ROTC scholarship and graduated with a degree in business from Sienna Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. Upon graduation, Issa was commissioned as an Army officer, and ultimately obtained the rank of captain. He completed his active-duty military service in 1980 and turned his interests to the private sector.</p>

<p>Darrell Edward Issa (/ˈaɪsə/ ICE-ə; born November 1, 1953) is an American businessman and politician who is the U.S. Representative for California's 50th congressional district. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served in the United States House of Representatives from 2001 to 2019, representing two districts primarily covering North County in the San Diego area, most recently California's 49th congressional district. From January 2011 to January 2015, he served as Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.</p>
<p>Issa served as CEO of Directed Electronics, which he co-founded in 1982. It is one of the largest makers of automobile aftermarket security and convenience products in the United States. With a net worth of approximately $250 million, Issa is the second wealthiest serving member of Congress.</p>
<p>Issa announced on January 10, 2018, that he would not seek reelection for his House seat. Democrat Mike Levin was elected on November 6, 2018, to become the district's next representative. On September 19, 2018, President Donald Trump nominated Issa to be Director of the United States Trade and Development Agency.</p>
<p>On September 26, 2019, Issa announced that he was running for California's 50th congressional district in the 2020 election. He placed second in the March 2020 top-two primary, advancing to face Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar in the November 2020 general election. Issa defeated Campa-Najjar in November 2020.</p>
